A picture is worth 1,000 words!
Today was a long day and I am tired so I will write fast. We were planning to go from Cartegena to Cali today. When we discovered how close the Panama Canal was and that I had never seen it, we decided to go there first and then down to Cali.
We started in Cartegena early, at least in general aviation traveling in South America terms and again it was rainy and cloudy.
The flight to the South East coast of Panama took less then an hour.
When we descended along the coast we discovered that it was really beautiful and that the forecast wasn't really accurate in terms of the amount of clouds.

The view leading up to the canal zone was ubelievable. We were right down on the deck flying along the coast so there was a good view.

At first we saw quite a few ships heading for the entrance to the canal on the Atlantic side. Then as we got closer there were hundreds all over the place.

I had never seen the canal before and was surprised as to what all it was. There was an actual canal but there was also amsystem of these lakes that comprised part of the canal.

Toward the South West side of the canal - it actual runs North and South - weird, I flew over the Highway of the Americas. This is really new and dramatic. Then toward the mouth of the canal on the Pacific side. The clouds were much better on this side.

This Panama City off in the distance across the canal.

It is probably hard to see but this is the first lock inside the canal. It was huge!
