Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink.
It is so beautiful and huge.
I didnt realize Panama was so close to Columbia! More on that on Wedensday.
The city is much larger and more modern then I had pictured.
Short final!
I just liked the image.
The day started in the Grand Caymans at the Ritz Carleton with a breakfast, a walk and a swim. The pack and move through the bureaucracy of the airport (really easy in a customs sort of way)and off to Cartegena. The flight took 3 hours and was totally over open water. It was weird how beautiful it was up there over the water. I liked it in some odd way it was kind of peaceful it certainly didn't bother me.
The appraoch and landing here was normal but there were a lot of clouds and it was raining lightly. Sort of an instrument/visual approach. By the time I cleared customs and left for the hotel it was dark so I couldn't really see too much of the city. There were a lot of people out in the center of town. Tomorrow I am going to walk through the city and maybe even do some shopping. I can't imagine any other place on my itinerary that will be as good as this.
The Hotel is the Sofitel Santa Clara and has an old part and a new part and is located in the walled portion of the city. It is beautiful and the rooms are great. I had dinner a t the French reasaurant and it was fantastic - very lucky so far with food. I need to go to bed tonight as last night I was up till 3 doing this blog - I am really slow.
