Day 10 Machu Picchu

Today I am the total tourist again. We are going as a group on a guided tour of Machu Picchu. The first two shots are taken of the hotel or from the hotel as the light was really pretty and it is a beautiful hotel. There is an actual chapel in the hotel and they have a tape playing all day till about 11 PM of chanting kind of church singing. The acoustics in there are really good so the effect is cool even though it sounds cheasy.

We rode to Machu Picchcu on a very fancy train called the Hiram Bingham train. He was the guy that got the credit for discovering Machu Picchu. The train is quite elegant and is run by a company Orient Express and must be modeled after the original.

I can't imagine any train being more elegant or better served. Really really great - even the food.

The scenery is beautiful.

The train runs along the Urabamba River which is quite fast and dramtic making for a beautiful view.

I am sure that eveyone that visits has the exact same pictures so excuse the lak of originality but it is breath taking.

Another long day - we were picked up at 8 and returned at almost 11 PM but a good day. I had a chance to sit and ponder in a scenically beautiful and interesting place.
Sunday is a travel day back to Lima where we have a dinner at a private residence next to the presidential palace - should be interesting.
More later

  1. I hope they gave you enough time to hike up the two mountains next to Machu Picchu. It's the world's first stairmaster! The view from the top while sitting on the edge of a slab of stone is amazing. The sunrise over MP is surreal. To see the first light to come through the mountains it is as if a higher being is calling out to you. Very enlightening. Amazing pictures. thanks for sharing
